A Blowout

D & W Lake Camp near Champaign, Ill. was a nice place for an overnight stop and it wasn’t raining.  Monday morning it was nice and sunny so we headed for King’s Camp in Chana, Ill.  Should have been a short trip arriving by noon but things don’t always go as planned.  About 20 north of Bloomington, Ill. I hear a noise and looking in the rear view mirror saw rubber flying from the left side tire of the Fifth-wheel.  Quickly pulled over and assessed the situation.  I have Coach-net road service so I called them and about 20 minutes latter a service truck showed up to change the tire.  It took a couple of hours to get that done as the tread of the tire  had wrapped around the axle and had to be cut and pried off piece at a time.  Thank God that there was very little other damage.  It did damage a brake line but I didn’t realize how bad until we stopped at a rest area and when I applied the brakes to stop it broke.  I could only tell because of the 15 ft. trail of brake fluid leading to the dangling brake line.  We were only about 25 miles from our destination so I disconnected the brake controller and continued on.  I figured the truck could handle it and I drove a little more careful.  No problem making it the rest of the way in with just a few hours delay.

Now I have to fix the brake line , bleed the brakes and get new tires.  New tires were on the agenda for this summer anyway so I guess it will be just a little sooner than planned.

We got all set up on our site and settled in.  Tuesday we went into Sycamore to see our son and his family of course the grandkids were the main point of the trip. Wednesday we had to make a trip to the store to get some groceries as we have been working at a camp where most of our meals were furnished we needed to stock up on a few things.

Saturday there was a potluck Mothers day breakfast at the camp.  I fixed a breakfast casserole.  Sorry I forgot to take the camera so I didn’t get any pictures but it was good.  We saw a lot of our friends which we haven’t seen since we left last year.

Sunday we attended Highland Fellowship Church in Elgin and got to see a lot of old friends. Following the service we were invited to a friends house for lunch.

Just to say again.  We’ve really enjoyed our time on the road.  We’ve enjoyed the places we were able to work and all the wonderful people that we met.  Many I’m sure will become life long friend.  God has been good to us and kept His hand on us as we’ve traveled.  We’re already looking forward to getting back on the road.

Those tire blowouts can be quite a stress. We’ve had more than our share. Finally last year we changed all the tires out and upgraded to G rated. Let’s see if that helps. Glad to read that yours caused no damage to the rig.
