Way Down Upon the Swannee River

Another week has past and I haven’t written anything.  Last week I said I would post pictures of our finished project.  So here it is.

This was only part of the painting we did as we worked a couple of days in one of the cottages. We patched some holes in the wall and painted one room.  We also removed all the caulk from the tub and showers in 6 bathrooms and re-caulked them. That’s enough about work.

One night each of the three couples that are here were invited to dinner at a different cottage.  Each cottage houses up to 10 boys along with the house parents.  We really enjoyed our time there as we got to talk to some of the boys as well as the house parents and hear about how a family of 12 with 10 teenage boys operate and get along.  It takes a veryspecial couple to be parents to ten unrelated boys, many of which are here because they had problems  getting along before they came.

Sunday we went to church at First Assembly of God in Mayo where our friends we worked with up at Springville, Al. go.  They had Gospel Singers Jerry and Little Jan Goff and for the service.  They were really good and we really enjoyed the service .  Afterwards they had a pot luck dinner.  A very friendly congregation of people.

I mentioned in my first post here that the ranch here borders on the Swannee River.  Monday we went to the Stephen Foster State Park and toured the grounds and went through the Stephen Foster museum.

A very interesting history of his life and song writing.  It was a beautiful day.  We took a picnic lunch and ate it in a gazebo on the banks of the Swannee.  While we were there we also found a couple of geocaches.

We are sure enjoying the weather that we’ve had. Most of the days have been in the mid 70’s to low 80’s. It’s supposed to turn colder on Thursday but with only one day in the 60’s and then back to highs in the 70’s.  I guess I can take that.

That’s all for today.  We start a new session with two new couples who are supposed to arrive this weekend.  Looking forward to another month here at the ranch.

Thanks for stopping by.
